I've come to the conclusion that the female looks retarded and I'll be playing the guy and passing "her" off as a tomboy... Look at the battle sprite. It kinda looks like a girl. *malicious grin.*

I'm going to pick girl the first time around, but if I ever restart it I think I'll be playing as a guy. He looks a lot better, but I figure I better go with my real gender first; just to sort of honour it ^^

Well for the first game of each group of games that I buy I usually choose the female character because I'm female. Then when I get the other version I play through that as the male, so in Diamond I chose female and when I got Platinum I chose male. I'd really like to do that with these games too...BUT I just don't think I can get past how stupid this new female character looks. Just when I was starting to accept her official artwork and go "okay this could work, she's not too bad" I saw how her overworld sprite looks in the game. Her pigtail things look horribly unnatural and stick up like brown horns or something and her head is consumed by a giant dumpling looking hat! I just don't think I can get use to looking at that for the whole game especially when the male character looks so awesome! So I'm probably going to break tradition and play as a male character my first time through HeartGold. I'm not even sure that if I get SoulSilver that I'll play the girl character, she's just so awkward looking...

I chose the MALE player because the girl character has no style whatsoever! she is so unappealing i was like no way! plus i can be a bit of a tomboy at times
i think you should be able to edit the character, or have multiple choices like 2 different boys and girls because that girl character sucks!

Despite being a dude myself, I'll be playing as the girl character for once. Why? Two reasons:

1) I want to try something different. I've always played as the dude in my other games.

2) When I remove the bow from Kotone's big hat, I get the hat of the girl in the following image: (Poke-fan artist Michikusa's attempt at replicating manga artist Shigekatsu Ihara's style.)
